TPRS – Express Fluency – video

(English above the video – Dutch underneath the video) At the NTPRS in Saint Louis in 2011 I had two roommates. One was Elissa McLean. “She began teaching Spanish in 1998 and has since worked with students ranging in age from 3 to 78. Her travels throughout Latin America inspired her both to learn and to teach Spanish. Prior to founding Express Fluency (formerly Escuelita Spanish School) in 2009, she served as curriculum director on the founding teams of two innovative high schools (The Shackleton School and Watershed School) where she developed Spanish immersion and travel programs for students. She led high school students on expeditions to study border issues in the United States and Mexico for six years and currently leads Express Fluency’s travel programs in Central America. She has taught students in grades K-12 in public and independent schools. In 2013 she lived in Costa Rica, teaching Spanish in a high school semester program. Elissa is trained in Comprehensible Input (CI) methods including Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS).” Express Fluency

Toen ik op de NTPRS in Saint Louis was in 2011 had ik twee ‘roomies’. Eentje heette Elissa Mclean. Elissa is in 1998 begonnen Spaans te doceren en sindsdien heeft ze gewerkt met leerlingen van 3 tot 78 jaar. Haar reizen door Latijns-Amerika inspireerden haar om zowel Spaans te leren als te doceren. Voordat ze Express Fluency oprichtte (voorheen Escuelita Spanish School) in 2009 was ze curriculumleider van twee teams van vernieuwende highschools (TheShackleton School and Watershed School) waar ze Spaanse immersieprogramma’s en reisporgramma’s voor leerlingen ontwikkelde. Zes jaar leidde ze highschool leerlingen tijdens expedities om grens-zaken te bestuderen in de Verenigde Staten en Mexico en momenteel leidt ze Express Fluency reisprogramma’s in Centraal Amerika. Ze heeft lesgegeven aan basisschoolleerlingen in publieke en privé scholen. In 2013 woonde ze in Costa Rica waar ze Spaans doceerde tijdens een Highschool semester programma. Elissa is getraind in Begrijpelijke Input methodes (CI), inclusief TPRS.

TPRS – How did Susan Gross get started?

Op de eerste dag van de NTPRS 2011 vertelde Blaine Ray tijdens de opening van de conferentie hoe hij tot TPR Storytelling is gekomen. Op de laatste dag vertelt Susan Gross in haar workshop “TPRS – how to get started?” hoe zij tot TPRS is gekomen en dat ze nog steeds weet hoe het is om te voelen: “Hoe moet ik in vredesnaam beginnen?”

NTPRS open mic night

Het is alweer de laatste avond! Aan de ene kant was het programma heel vol – van 8.30 tot 17.30 met korte pauzes en aan de andere kant had ik geen stekkerverdeeldoos meegenomen (stom, stom, stom)! zodat ik steeds moest zien dat ik voldoende stroom had voor zowel laptop als voor de filmcamera…
